Concept Art
"The Rhodes' SUV sat engulfed in flames not far from this point. If ever something could make an imprint on a spiritual plane, the events that preceeded this point in time would surely leave a weeping gash in it's very fabric. Mrs. Rhodes only wanted to get her sick husband to the hospital, to stop his fever, to stop his pain...to stop his screaming. But her haste was wasted, her husband lies quietly in the backseat. The fever had finally taken him and Mrs. Rhodes was at a loss of words when her daughter asked why her father wasn't moving anymore. Mrs. Rhodes driving on mere instinct alone as she slips away from the reality of her dead husband, the man that she had been with for 15 years now, dead from some disease the health administration said was no threat to the American populace last night on the news, The horrible screech of what sounds like the metal on metal wail of some ancient rusty brake pad melts away into the cry of help from Mrs. Rhodes' daughter in the back seat. Looking in the rear view mirror to see only the rolled back eyes of her son as he holds his openly flowing neck wound. Abandoning any logic or reason Mr's Rhodes recoils in terror as she sees her dead husband chewing on her daughter's outstretched arm. Before even a second of comprehension could enter her mind the car was air born and that terrible image was imprinted into the darkness that entered her mind as the vehicle impacted the brick wall.
Mrs. Rhodes staggers to her feet, lost in the flickering lights of the nearby wreckage and the pounding of her aching head. The only thing guiding her now is her maternal desire to find her children and make sure they are alright. Luckily for Mrs. Rhodes the answer she seeks lies only a few meters to her left down that shop alleyway. Mrs. Rhodes can already see young Joseph tending to his sister, hunched over her possibly trying to help her up. The only pieces that are even remotely clear in the events that follow are that Joseph was sobbing as he reached out to his still motionless sister, repeatedly saying "I'm sorry". All Mrs. Rhodes wants to do is tell her son it's not his fault and hug him and know that he is okay. But surely the mangled masses of stripped flesh adorning the child's crown were tricks of the eye in the darkness of the alley way. Even when Joseph turned blankly to meet his Mother's gaze with his remaining healthy eye that was not obstructed by curtains of forehead flesh, Mrs. Rhodes refused to accept the madness that has just become her reality...or rather your reality...can you kill your child before you? can you put to rest the jawless flayed automaton that bears such a resemblance to your daughter, only how could she be your daughter, how can she still move? How are you going to fare when there's no more room in hell?
