Are you making money on the ads that play? In-game advertisements in NMRiH

March 10th, 2014 by Brentonator We do not support these intrusive ads which are mostly propagated by a company called "Pinion".

Their ads will often continue to play in the background after you've left a server featuring pinion ads. You will have to restart NMRiH to get rid of them. We recommend "blacklisting" servers which have such intrusive and game breaking advertising by right clicking the server and clicking blacklist.

No More Room in Hell is ad-free. Servers you join may have ads of their own, which most of the time is acceptable except for the case of these broken Pinion ad servers.

Why am I floating around and can clip through walls when I join a server?

March 10th, 2014 by Brentonator This means you are in spectator mode. You can't join the game right away, you must wait until the next spawn point is available, or whenever the entire team dies off, whichever is first.

Remember to search for servers with "Spawning:Active" under "Add Common Tags" to find servers where you can jump in and play without waiting.

Can I play as a zombie?

March 10th, 2014 by Brentonator No, you can't play as zombies. If you die while infected your character can turn into a zombie, but it is uncontrollable and will attack your friends.

LAN Servers are restricted to local clients (Class C)

November 3rd, 2013 by Brentonator Currently, the server browser is listing servers that are LAN-Only. When you get this error, "LAN Servers are restricted to local clients (Class C)" you should not try to connect to that server again and try another one in the server browser.

Valve is working on removing the sv_lan 1 servers from the server browser. There is an issue with either Source SDK or the Steam Master Server List.

If it is your server that is having this issue, please enter the following commands into console in order to correct this issue.

  • sv_lan 0
  • heartbeat
  • changelevel nmo_broadway

Changing Video Settings Causes Game to Not Start

July 28th, 2013 by dark_st3alth

Problem: After changing video settings, game shows a black screen for 1/2 second and closes. Re-installing does not work, and removing files from cfg folder does not resolve the issue.

Solution: More than likely there's an issue with the display settings, or some advanced video setting. You can force the game into a "compatibility mode", where it will work for sure on hardware since ~2005.

This can be done by going into your Steam library, right clicking No More Room in Hell → Properties → Set launch options button. In the box, either copy paste, or enter the following:

-novid -width 1024 -height 768 -startwindowed -dxlevel 80

This will force the game to run on DirectX 8, not to display any starting videos, and run in a window with a size of 1024x768. It is not recommended to run the game under these settings permanently, due to missing requirements which will cause graphical issues. You can remove the "-dxlevel 80" part of the launch option to comply with game requirements.

For those of you experiencing this issue, fear not! There may be a solution.

  1. Shut down steam.
  2. Delete the "config" folder in your Steam directory.
  3. Open Steam again
  4.  Steam will redownload all of the files you deleted and verify the contents of your steamapps folder. (Credible sources say this process only takes a couple minutes)

What ports do I need to forward in port forwarding? What ports for nmrih server?

August 31st, 2012 by Brentonator

First, figure out what your public IP is. It's easy go HERE and it tells you right at the top.

Second, make sure you have 27015 (TCP & UDP) forwarded on your router. Not sure how to forward ports? Go to portforward.com which is one of the best places to learn how to port forward.

Required Ports:
UDP 27015
TCP 27015 (only if you need rcon)

After you have opened your ports you can confirm if your port is open using You Get Signal's Open Port Checker

Other suggested ports for No More Room in Hell (and other Source Engine games):
UDP 1200
UDP 27000 to 27017
UDP 27020
TCP 27030 to 27039
TCP 27015

Note: Your ISP may prevent you from opening ports. Also, certain routers do not support the feature despite having the option to do so. Additional configuration options may override opening your port.
